Ottawa Senators Foundation’s impact on the community

Ottawa Senators fans and the Senators Community Foundation supported 55 charities in the Ottawa-Gatineau community over the past year.

The Senators Community Foundation released its Community Impact Report for 2024-25 on Wednesday, showing how $2.3 million raised throughout the year supported 55 charities.

“We raise money, and we invite the community to join us to solve real problems in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, particularly for children and youth,” Jacqueline Belsito, Senators Community Foundation president, told CTV Morning Live.

“Sports, levelling the playing field so that people can create their paths and their future, and, of course, health care.”

The Senators Community Foundation focuses on three pillars: wellness through sport, wellness through care and wellness through access.

Belsito said the Senators Community Foundation had a “particular interest in supporting smaller organizations so they can move the needle in helping children and youth.”

On Wednesday, the Senators Community Foundation announced donations of $35,000 to HEROS Hockey, $13,419 to Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre and $7,500 to First Assist.

According to the Community Impact Report, the foundation provided financial support for 632 children to attend sports and recreation camps, provided free hockey equipment and on ice instruction for more than 100 Indigenous youth in remote regions of Canada, and 279 children were provided access to camps through the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa.

Senators fans can support the Senators Community Foundation by buying 50/50 tickets for Senators games, making a donation or hosting an event to raise funds.
