This Thanksgiving long weekend marks the final days of the fall colours chairlift at Calabogie Peaks. Chairlift tours up the Calabogie Peaks ski hill have been taking place each weekend since Sept. 20, offering a view of the scenic fall colours on display across Renfrew County. “I love coming out and seeing all the scenery. I think it’s gorgeous to come and see it all,” said Abigail Vizena, who ventured from Ottawa to see the fall colours atop the ski hill on Saturday. The visitor attraction will remain open on Sunday and on the holiday Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for its final two days this season. The last opportunity is drawing many visitors out over the long weekend, who are embracing the above-seasonal temperatures for this time of year. “We’re actually staying in Almonte, but we decided to come up here to do the hike around the mountain and up to Eagle’s Nest,” said Ottawa resident Jeff Chamberlain. “Just get out of the city, enjoy the colors and this beautiful weekend.” But fall colours are beginning to fade across eastern Ontario. Algonquin Park’s fall colours report says its maple, poplar and birch trees are past their primes and will soon shed their leaves. The National Capital Commission’s Fall Rhapsody colour meter says leaves are still in peak season in the Greenbelt and Gatineau Park, and in mid-season in downtown Ottawa. Rain and overcast skies Saturday did dampen the vibrancy though for those who made the hour-and-a-half trip from the city. “It’s pretty good. It’s a little muted with the lack of sunshine, but I hear that’s coming. So yeah. Looking forward to that.” Tickets for the fall colours chairlift at Calabogie Peaks can be purchased here.
