Expired licence plate leads to seizure of 500 grams of cannabis, OPP say

Ontario Provincial Police say a traffic stop prompted by unrenewed licence plates in Clarence-Rockland on Saturday led to the seizure of nearly 500 grams of cannabis and smaller quantities of other drugs.

According to an OPP statement on X, officers conducted a traffic stop after spotting a vehicle with expired plates in the eastern Ontario city.

After investigating the vehicle, police say they found hydromorphone pills and tablets, more than 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine and nearly 500 grams of cannabis and suspected hash.

Police say the driver was arrested and is facing multiple charges.

“Remember, licence plates will not renew automatically if there is no valid insurance or outstanding unpaid fines,” OPP wrote.
