Elton John hits the stage in Ottawa

Elton John and his band brought the “All the Hits” tour to the Capital Thursday night, bringing 17,000 fans to their feet during the sold-out show.

It is his first concert in Ottawa since 2006.

"He's been on our bucket list so we decided we were going to come tonight," said one fan.

John is one of the top-selling solo artists of all time and has had 29 consecutive Top 40 hits.

His latest album “The Diving Board” was released in September 2013 and his "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album is expected to be reissued with a 5-disc box set and a limited-edition yellow vinyl double album on March 25.

John Torley celebrated his 50th birthday at the concert.

"I've been listening to Elton John for over 30 years and I think he's an awesome, awesome pianist and I'm really looking forward to this concert and being my 50th it's extra special," Torley said.

John has played more than 3,500 concerts worldwide.

His concert at the Canadian Tire Centre lasted nearly 3 hours.
