A driver travelling from Gatineau, Que. to Ottawa was stopped for speeding 63 km/h over the speed limit on the interprovincial bridge over the Ottawa River. The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer stopped a driver going 113 km/h on the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge on Wednesday as the vehicle was travelling towards King Edward Avenue. The speed limit is 50 km/h on the interprovincial bridge once you cross into Ontario, before dropping to 40 km/h when you reach the split to King Edward Avenue or Dalhousie Street. The driver is facing a charge of stunt driving, which includes a 30-day driving suspension and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days. The driver was stopped near Ottawa’s busiest photo radar camera. The camera on King Edward Avenue, between Bolton Street and St. Patrick Street, caught 56,126 speeders between February and November 2024.
