Driver stopped on Highway 401 for slow driving, given over $5000 in fines

A truck driver on Highway 401 was pulled over by police, but not for driving too fast.

According to a social media post from OPP East Region, police stopped a truck marked with graffiti that was driving more than 40 km/h under the highway’s speed limit.

Police say the driver was rolling along at 57 km/h in the 100 km/h zone near Lansdowne, Ont., approximately 50 kilometres northeast of downtown Kingston.

After stopping the vehicle, OPP say they found that the driver was operating the truck without commercial vehicle documentation and without the proper class of licence. The driver also did not have records for hours of service.

According to police, the vehicle was overweight, had multiple safety violations and had not received an annual inspection. The licence plates were removed from the vehicle after the OPP’s inspection as it was deemed unfit to operate.

The driver and his company received a grand total of 18 tickets worth up to $5600 in fines, police say.
