Driver in a rental car stopped speeding 69 km/h over the speed limit on Ottawa road

Ottawa police said a driver in this rental car was stopped speeding 69 km/h over the speed limit on Limebank Road.

A driver will have to explain to a rental car company while the vehicle won’t be available for 14 days after their buddy was charged with stunt driving on an Ottawa road.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer observed a driver going 149 km/h on Limebank Road on Wednesday.

The speed limit is 80 km/h.

Police say the vehicle was a rental car being driven by a friend of the person who rented the vehicle.

“Imagine turning a one-day rental into a 14 day impound,” police said on X.

“Such was the case earlier today for the lessee who ended up being one of four passengers watching as his buddy was charged with Stunt Driving by a Traffic Escort Unit officer for doing 149 in the 80km/h zone on Limebank Road.”

The charge of stunt driving includes the vehicle impounded for 14 days, and the driver’s licence suspended for 30 days.
