The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a 15-month-old was struck by a car driven by an officer in a private driveway at a home in Oxford Station Friday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The officer was on-duty when the incident happened, the OPP told CTV News Ottawa. It happened shortly after noon when the OPP officer “was moving a personal vehicle in their driveway,” the OPP in Grenville County said in a news release. The child sustained “serious injuries” and was taken to a regional trauma centre, police say. The child remains in hospital in stable condition, said the SIU in a news release. Police will not provide further details about the incident, as the investigation is in the hands of the province’s watchdog agency, the OPP said. “Four investigators, one forensic investigator and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case,” reads the SIU’s release. “Four witness officials and one subject official have been designated.” Anyone with information about this incident or video footage is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
