It was a night of celebration Wednesday night as Greece marked the 205th anniversary of its independence from the Ottoman Empire. Over 400 guests packed into the Scotiabank Grand Hall at the National Galley of Canada for a celebration hosted by the Embassy of Greece. The Greek community in Canada and in Ottawa has a rich heritage dating back over two centuries, and it has grown to almost 300,000 strong across the country. The Greek Ambassador Ekaterina Dimakis was on hand to welcome everyone and CTV News Chief Political Correspondent Vassy Kapelos was the MC for the evening. “Canada and Greece, as well as the European Union and other partners, share the same values, and as I keep saying, anything can change but not our values,” Dimakis said. “We stand by our values and upon those we build for future generations.”
