Car crashes into snowplow on Hwy. 417 in Ottawa

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding motorists to keep their distance from snowplows after a car crashed into a plow on Highway 417 in Ottawa.

Police responded to numerous collisions on Highway 416 and 417 on Wednesday and Thursday, as a storm delivered 13 cm of snow to the national capital region.

OPP Const. Michael Fathi said “unfortunately,” one of the collisions involved a vehicle that struck a snowplow.

Police responded to the collision on Hwy. 417 near Metcalfe shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. A photo posted on social media showed a car that had struck the side of the snowplow.

The driver of the car was not charged following the collision.

“A reminder to keep plenty of distance from the plows while they help clear our roads,” Fathi said.

“A situation like this would cause delays in clearing our roadways.”

Ottawa police charged two drivers who collided with snowplows over the past week.

On Sunday morning, police said a driver collided with a sidewalk plow in the east end. The driver was arrested for impaired driving.

On Tuesday, a driver on Limebank Road struck a snowplow after going the wrong way.
