Barbegazi in ByWard Market: Here’s what you need to know about the snowmobile freestyle show

Snowmobilers are revving their engines in the ByWard Market for a special Winterlude event. CTV’s Kimberley Fowler reports.

Snowmobiles will soar up to 40 feet in the air in Ottawa’s ByWard Market this weekend as part of Winterlude celebrations.

Friday’s event was postponed due to weather, but the show is still scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, aiming to “transform the ByWard Market District into a high-energy winter arena.”

“Expect a weekend with sky-high levels of adrenaline, with ice-cold freestyle snowmobile performances reaching up to 40 feet in the air,” said the ByWard Market’s website.

Here is what you need to know about Barbegazi in the ByWard Market.

What is it?

The Barbegazi website says it will be a weekend “packed with adrenaline, action, and pure Canadian winter energy.”

“From freestyle tricks to high-speed performances, our athletes will turn Ottawa’s winter playground into a show of speed, style, and snow,” the website said.

Where is it?

Barbegazi will be held in the area of York Street and ByWard Market Square.

When is it?

Barbegazi runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the ByWard Market.

Friday

• 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - Snowmobile Freestyle Show
• 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Athletes meet and greet

Saturday

• 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. - Snowmobile Freestyle Show
• 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. - Athletes meet and greet
• 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - Snowmobile Freestyle Show
• 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Athletes meet and greet

Sunday

• 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. - Snowmobile Freestyle Show
• 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. - Athletes meet and greet

Road and parking closure

York Street westbound will be fully closed until 8 a.m. Monday.

York Street eastbound will be closed, between Sussex Drive and William Street, during the following times:

• Friday: 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Parking in the eastbound lanes of York Street will be closed from 2 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. on Sunday.

ByWard Market Square

ByWard Market Square will be closed, between George Street and Clarence Street, during the following times:

• Friday: 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Parking garage access on York Street

“Only users of the residential parking garage on York Street will receive permits allowing access during event operations,” the ByWard Market said.

“Vehicles will enter from George Street and ByWard Market Square and exit toward York Street and William Street.”
