2 people killed in 4-vehicle crash on Hwy. 7 near Perth, Ont.

Two people are dead following a four-vehicle crash on Highway 7 west of Perth, Ont.

Emergency crews responded to the crash on Highway 7, between Maberly and Perth in Tay Valley Township just after 3 a.m. Friday.

The collision involved two transport trucks, a pickup truck and an SUV.

OPP Const. Cory Noonan said seven people were in those four vehicles.

“It appears, on the early outset of the investigation, that a transport truck, an SUV and another transport truck were all travelling eastbound on Highway 7 and were met by a pickup truck coming westbound. The pickup truck and the first transport truck had a collision, which had a domino effect resulting in four vehicles being involved,” Noonan said.

A 59-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man travelling in the same vehicle died in the crash.

Two other people were transported by Air Ornge to a regional trauma centre, while one person was taken to a hospital in Ottawa and one to a local hospital for treatment.

“The last update that I had was that two people are still critical, one serious. I can’t give you the extent their injuries,” said Noonan.

Highway 7 was closed between County Road 36 and County Road 511 in Perth for the investigation. It reopened at around 2 p.m.
