A 12-year-old boy from Cornwall is facing assault and arson charges after a pair of incidents over the last month. The Cornwall Police Service says officers were dispatched for an assault complaint on July 17. It’s alleged the youth assaulted an individual known to him, causing injuries. The extent of the injuries were not released. On Aug. 6, officers were dispatched to investigate an arson outside a Ninth Street West business. Police say the youth “deliberately set fire” to a bale of cardboard. After an investigation, police developed reasonable grounds to arrest him. The youth was located by an officer on Aug. 10, taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily harm and arson - damage to property. The boy cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
