Two bus routes that serve downtown Ottawa and a route that runs between Blair Station and Tunney’s Pasture continue to see the highest number of bus trip cancellations this winter as OC Transpo deals with a shortage of buses. Data obtained by CTV News Ottawa shows Route 12 (Blair-Tunney’s Pasture), Route 6 (Greenboro-Rockcliffe) and Route 7 (St. Laurent-Carleton) had the most bus trips cancelled during the month of February and the first week of March. OC Transpo has been dealing with a shortage of new buses and a maintenance backlog taking older buses off the road since early January. The transit service proactively cancelled 255 trips each day since mid-January to decrease the size of the fleet required for service by 20 buses. OC Transpo cancelled 6,501 bus trips during the month of February, and 1,020 trips were cancelled during the week of March 1-7. CTVNewsOttawa.ca asked OC Transpo for a list of the most cancelled bus trips during the month of February and the first week of March (March 1-7). Route 12, Route 6 and Route 7 had the most cancelled bus trips during the five-week period. Route 12, which runs between Blair Station and Tunney’s Pasture, had 84 trips cancelled during the week of March 1 and 409 trips cancelled in February. OC Transpo cancelled 57 trips on Route 6 during the week of March 1-7, which runs along Rideau Street and Bank Street. A total of 296 trips were cancelled on the busy route in February. Fifty-one trips were cancelled on Route 7 during the first week of March. In February, 251 trips were cancelled on Route 7, which runs between St. Laurent Centre and Carleton University, and travels along Rideau Street and Bank Street. Two bus routes from Tunney’s Pasture to Ottawa’s south end were among the 10 routes with the highest number of bus trip cancellations during the first week of March. Route 74, which runs between Tunney’s Pasture and Limebank Station along Woodroffe Avenue and Strandherd Drive, had 32 trips cancelled between March 1 and March 7. A total of 30 trips were cancelled on Route 53 the week of March 1-7, which runs between Tunney’s Pasture and Baseline Station by Algonquin College.
