Jimmy Fallon and Ella Rubin had plenty to say about Muskoka during Rubin’s appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — and both made it clear they have a soft spot for the Ontario cottage country. Rubin appeared on the late show last week to talk about her new series Sterling Point, which was filmed in Muskoka Lakes and parts of Toronto. “I like Muskoka. It’s gorgeous,” Fallon said. “It’s beautiful. Have you been?” Rubin asked Fallon during the interview. “Yes, I have been. The most beautiful place on earth,” he replied. Rubin was equally enthusiastic about filming in Canada. “I love Canada and I just feel so lucky that we got to be there,” she said. Discover Muskoka responded to the exchange in a social media post, saying they’re “blushing,” adding that the two calling Muskoka “the most beautiful place on earth” is pretty special. In the series, Sterling Point is an island located on Lake Muskoka. While the island itself is part of a fictional place, Muskoka serves as the setting for the show’s lakefront scenery. According to IMDb, the eight-episode series follows Annie and her twin brother, who were raised in New York City by their single father. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they discover their estranged grandfather has left them a lake island. “Right now I’m team Muskoka and team Annie,” Rubin said as she referenced the show’s storyline and characters. “I’m team what’s best for Annie and I think Muskoka is best for Annie.” Created by Megan Park, Sterling Point also stars Amélie Hoeferle and Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie. The Amazon Prime series runs for eight episodes and is rated for mature audiences. For viewers and cottagers familiar with the northern region, the lakes and scenery will be immediately recognizable. For Rubin and Fallon, the appeal appears to go beyond its role as a television backdrop.
