A man from Utterson, Ont., has been fined $3,500 for various camping and public land violations in northern Ontario. Jonpaul Evans was convicted of unlawfully occupying and depositing items on public lands in violation of a notice. On Nov. 4, 2024, conservation officers located a camping trailer, pickup truck and flatbed trailer parked in the McConnell Lakes Management area of Lasalle Township, where camping is prohibited. “On the same date, a second pickup truck was located with a shipping container and mini excavator in McAuslan Township,” the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a court bulletin. Shipping container, trucks, trailer left behind “An investigation revealed that the items had been deposited in October 2024. Evans left the trucks, camping trailer and shipping container on site throughout the winter.” He removed all items except the shipping container during the summer of 2025. “Evans had previously been convicted in 2018 for leaving a camping trailer on public land for an extended period,” the MNR said. Justice of the Peace Monique Mechefske heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Jan. 22.
