Sudbury Wolves owner Dario Zulich has bought another sports franchise. This time it’s a pro basketball team in the Canadian league known as the NBL. The news comes a week after Zulich bought the long-time Northern Football conference team, the Sudbury Spartans. “With Basketball we complement the arena facility and we broaden the entertainment options in the market. We have been watching this league for the past two seasons and we have seen significant growth in the league. The time is now right to bring Professional Basketball into the fold.” Said Zulich. NBL commissioner, David Magley is thrilled to be expanding into Northern Ontario. “We have the opportunity to grow the game, integrate into a wonderful market like Sudbury, smack in the middle of Northeastern Ontario.” said Magley The NBL Canada has a rule that five Canadian players must be on each roster, and most of the other players come from the U-S college ranks. The league is currently in the playoffs of its 6th consecutive seasons of operation, with 10 teams at present, 5 in Atlantic Canada and 5 in southern Ontario cities like London, Windsor, Niagara, Kitchener and Orangeville. Zulich plans to have a contest to name the Sudbury team. He hopes to have his team playing in December of 2017.
