Athletes put their strength to the test at the 2026 Western Canadian Powerlifting Championships at Saskatoon’s Prairieland Park. The four-day powerlifting competition wrapped up Sunday. Powerlifters compete in age and weight classes, with three attempts at each lift. The event offered a chance to set provincial and national records and take a step toward competing at the 2027 national championships. Saskatoon welcomed competitors from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia — along with members of the U.K.’s Royal Air Force Powerlifting Association. Volunteer and powerlifter Tania Raiwet said the encouragement between competitors is a highlight. “The community is amazing, everybody is so cheerful and encouraging,” she said. National championships are set to be held in Nanaimo, B.C., in February.
