Youth killed in snowmobile crash in northwestern Ont.

A young person from Lake Helen First Nation was killed in a snowmachine collision March 17 along Highway 11/17.

Ontario Provincial Police in Nipigon said they responded around 7 a.m. with emergency medical services around 7 a.m. to the crash, which took place near Settler’s Road in Nipigon.

“The snowmobile passenger, a youth from, was pronounced deceased on scene,” police said in a news release.

The highway from Highway 587 to the Nipigon River Bridge, as well as Highway 628, was closed following the fatal crash.

Nipigon OPP and the traffic management unit are investigating along with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
