Youth, 16, rammed cruiser with stolen vehicle, Sudbury police say

A teen faces trafficking charges after a stolen vehicle was recovered in Sudbury. Police say the youth attempted to flee, ramming an unmarked cruiser.

A 16-year-old who was already under release conditions is facing drug trafficking and other charges following an incident Thursday in Greater Sudbury.

Members of the break, enter and robbery (BEAR) unit spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen on Dec. 14, parked at an address on Frood Road.

“An individual exited the building and walked to the vehicle,” police said in a news release Friday.

Struggle ensued

“Officers approached the individual on foot, while an additional police vehicle was used to block the vehicle. When officers went to effect an arrest, the individual attempted to evade police by intentionally ramming the unmarked police vehicle with the stolen vehicle.”

A struggle ensued, but officers were able to take the suspect into custody “without further risk to officer or public safety.”

A subsequent search uncovered 136 grams of what is believed to be cocaine and $3,500 in cash. The estimated value of the drugs is $13,600.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered and the investigation into the original incident is ongoing,” police said.

The youth has been charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, assaulting police, resisting arrest, drug trafficking, possession of property obtained through crime over $5,000, and breaching a release order.

The youth was held in custody overnight and will be in bail court Friday.
