Woman in northwestern Ont. charged in $50K fraud case

A 45-year-old woman from Manitouwadge, Ont., has been charged in connection with multiple cases of fraud that total more than $50,000.

Ontario Provincial Police said they received a report Jan. 23 about someone who committed fraud in 2024.

Police were told about “multiple fraudulent transactions between July 2024 and August 2024 totalling more than $50,000,” the OPP said in a news release March 18.

Following an investigation, police arrested the woman and charged her with five counts of fraud over $5,000 and two counts of fraud under $5,000.

Police have refused to reveal the type of fraud alleged in the case.

She was released and has a court date of June 10 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Manitouwadge.
