A 35-year-old commercial driver from Winnipeg has been charged after a single vehicle crash on a highway off-ramp in Sudbury early Tuesday morning. Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a single commercial motor vehicle collision on the east bound ramp from Highway 69 to Highway 17 at about 3 a.m. on April 14. “No injuries were reported,” OPP said in a social media post Wednesday. As a result of the crash, the 35-year-old that was operating the tractor trailer was charged with careless driving. OPP reminds drivers to slow down on off-ramps Police used the incident to remind motorists to reduce their speed when exiting highways via off-ramps to help prevent collisions. “Off-ramps are designed with lower speed limits for a reason. Sharp curves, changing road conditions and merging traffic require drivers to slow down and remain in full control of their vehicle,” said OPP. “Failing to adjust your speed when leaving the highway can result in loss of control, rollovers or rear-end collisions.” Safe driving tips As part of the reminder OPP provided a list of tips for drivers to deal with off-ramps. Motorists are encouraged to: “Slow down,” added OPP Const. Rob Lewis in the post.
