West Ferris Secondary School 'Parade for Cancer' raises $50,000

North Bay high school raises $50K for cancer care West Ferris Secondary School nearly tops fundraising record with 28th annual Trojan Parade for cancer. Jaime McKee reports.

This years' Parade for Cancer at West Ferris Secondary School has raised $50,000, which is the second most raised in the 28 years the fundraiser has existed.

"There’s 1,000 kids, the momentum is great, it’s a great event, said Mark Robertson, a teacher at West Ferris.

"It’s an opportunity for the students to come together for a cause that really is close to everybody in the building. You would be hard pressed to find somebody who hasn’t been impacted with cancer."

This year, the money is going towards purchasing two new mammogram machines for North Bay’s hospital.

"They’re just so important for screening and diagnosis of beast cancer," North Bay Regional Health Centre Hospital Foundation president and CEO Tammy Morison.

"Cancer touches everyone, so we want to make sure we have the best equipment available locally."
