Wawa, Ont., raid uncovers drugs, cash and numerous firearms

Police in Wawa have seized numerous weapons, cash and a host of illegal drugs during an operation earlier this week. One person was charged.

Police in Wawa say a search warrant executed at a residence on Churchill Avenue this week uncovered a cache of weapons and illegal drugs.

The raid took place June 4 at an apartment complex, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday.

Police “seized more than 30 grams of suspected cocaine (estimated street value exceeding $3,000), more than 48 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine (estimated street value exceeding $4,800), more than 760 tablets of methamphetamine (estimated street value exceeding $4,500),” police said.

Several weapons and a stun gun were also seized, along with $3,300 in cash, packing materials, scales and cellphones.

A 41-year-old from Wawa has been charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences, violating probation and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice video bail court in Wawa on June 5 and was remanded into custody.
