Wanted man arrested by OPP in northern Ont., vehicle impounded

A 45-year-old Elliot Lake man is in custody after Ontario Provincial Police arrested him on multiple outstanding warrants during a traffic stop last week.

The arrest occurred on Nov. 3 after an OPP officer identified a wanted person behind the wheel of a vehicle.

“Police observed a wanted person operating a small grey sport utility vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Hillside Drive South,” OPP said in a news release.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene.

Police also confirmed the man was driving with a suspended licence.

As a result, local man now faces a charge for driving while under suspension. In addition to the new charge, police executed two committal warrants against the accused.

The motorist’s vehicle was towed and impounded following the arrest.

In an email to CTV News, OPP Const. Phil Young confirmed the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Wednesday and remained into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 17.
