Vehicle in ditch leads to impaired charges for Sudbury-area man

A 51-year-old man from Atikameksheng First Nation is facing impaired driving charges after police located a vehicle in a ditch over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at about 6 p.m. on Nora Road within the First Nation community.

Ontario Provincial Police say that Atikameksheng First Nation Police initially observed the vehicle off the roadway in a ditch.

“The driver was not injured and was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to an OPP detachment for further testing,” said police in a news release.

Following the investigation, the local man has been charged with two impaired driving offences – including having a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.

In addition to the charges, the motorist also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Sudbury on Jan. 28.
