Unaccompanied G1 licence holder charged with drug-impaired driving, breaching probation

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a G1 driver with impaired operation and related offences following a traffic stop in northern Ontario last week.

The incident occurred on Friday just after noon when OPP members conducted a stop of a vehicle on Westmount in Greater Sudbury.

“The G1 driver was found to be impaired and breaching a probation order and was arrested, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing,” police said in a news release Monday.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 36-year-old man from Sagamok Anishinabek First Nation, faces charges for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. He is also charged with driving unaccompanied by a qualified driver as a class G1 licence holder and with failing to comply with a probation order.

In addition to the charge, the man also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody following the investigation and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 18.
