Two men have been charged with attempted murder and a woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following an assault on Eabametoong First Nation earlier this week. The attack took place the morning of Aug. 13, said a news release Nishnawbe Aski Police Service on Aug. 14. Police “received a call for service in the morning hours … regarding an adult female who was receiving treatment at the community nursing station for injuries consistent with a recent assault,” police said. “The victim was transported out of the community for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries. The exact extent of their injuries remains unknown but are believed to be serious and life-threatening.” Two suspects were identified through the police investigation and they were arrested later Thursday. The men, ages 24 and 17, have been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Both accused appeared for a bail hearing Aug.14 and were remanded into custody with a future court date. “The investigation remains ongoing,” police said.
