Two GTA men charged, one at large after North Bay drug bust

The North Bay Police Service has seized suspected fentanyl, cocaine and other drugs with an estimated street value of $23,500 as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the city.

The investigation, which involved multiple units, has resulted in charges against two Greater Toronto Area men.

Traffic stop and search

On Aug. 28 at about 8 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of Worthington Street East involving a 21-year-old man from Oshawa.

The accused was arrested. Police said officers located and seized suspected fentanyl, cocaine and cash during a search subsequent to his arrest.

According to local police, further investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at a building in the 1000 block of Algonquin Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. that evening.

“Officers located additional suspected Percocet pills, crack cocaine and materials consistent with drug trafficking,” police said in a news release.

Items seized

The subsequent search led to the seizure of:

• 79 grams of fentanyl,
• 72 grams cocaine,
• 21 Percocet pills,
• 1.5 grams crack cocaine and
• $880 in cash.

Police said the estimated street value of the illicit substances seized was $23,500.

“This investigation highlights the importance of our investigative teams working together. Their coordination, communication and quick action allowed us to intercept these drugs before they reached our streets,” said Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner.

Charges laid, one suspect still at large

The 21-year-old Oshawa man was held in custody pending a bail hearing. He is charged with five drug trafficking offences and one count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a co-accused in the investigation, a 55-year-old Durham man. The Durham man is charged with two drug trafficking offences and remains at large at the time of this publication.
