Southwestern Ontario is enjoying warm, sunny weather to start the school year, but forecasters say a cold front will bring an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday. Temperatures reached the mid-to-high 20s across the region Tuesday, with London climbing to about 26 C and warmer conditions near Windsor. “It was a beautiful start to the back-to-school season across southern Ontario,” said CTV News meteorologist Julie Atchison. Cloud cover is expected to increase overnight, with a slight chance of showers in parts of Midwestern Ontario, including Grey, Bruce and Perth counties. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain mild, near 20 C. A cold front moving in from the northwest is expected to arrive Wednesday afternoon, bringing scattered showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. “This is not shaping up to be an all-day rain event,” Atchison said. “It’s a frontal system that will bring the chance of showers later in the day for London and Windsor, while areas in midwestern Ontario could see rainfall earlier.” Despite the unsettled weather, temperatures are expected to remain warm, reaching between 22 C and 26 C. Humidity levels will also increase ahead of the front before cooler conditions move in Wednesday evening.
