Two charged after drug bust in Moosonee

A drug trafficking investigation in the northern Ontario community of Moosonee has resulted in charges against two local residents following the seizure of suspect ed fentanyl and crystal meth.

Ontario Provincial Police officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the community on Feb. 25.

The investigation was part of the OPP’s ongoing efforts to address the illegal drug trade in the region.

“During the execution of the warrant, police seized six grams of suspected fentanyl, 11 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia,” the OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

Police said the estimated street value of the drugs seized was $2,000.

As a result, a 39-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Moosonee, have been charged with two drug trafficking offences each.

Both accused individuals were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Moosonee on May 5.

OPP used the incident to highlight the broader impacts of such investigations on the community.

“The OPP remains committed to addressing drug trafficking and its impact on community safety across northern Ontario,” said police.
