Traffic complaint leads to impaired charges on Hwy. 69

A 51-year-old woman from Henvey Inlet First Nation is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic complaint on Highway 69 last week.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the complaint at about 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 26 in Burwash Township.

“The vehicle was passing unsafely in a construction zone,” the police said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers located the vehicle, took the driver into custody and transported her to a Nipissing West OPP detachment for further testing.

Following the investigation, the woman was charged with two impaired driving offences – including having a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.

In addition to the charges, the driver also received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Sudbury on Oct. 22.

‘Make the call’

“OPP would like to remind the public that if you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails, please ‘make the call,’ and dial 911 as impaired driving never ends well,” said police.

Authorities also advised the public to always plan a safe way home.
