The Canadian Space Agency says a partial solar eclipse will be visible across nearly all of Canada Wednesday, as the moon passes between earth and the sun and briefly covers part of our star. For those in Barrie, the celestial show will get underway shortly before 1 p.m. and last about an hour and a half. According to timeanddate, a website dedicated to time zones, the partial eclipse will begin in Barrie at 12:52 p.m., reach its maximum at 1:38 p.m., ending at 2:23 p.m. At its peak, the website states that the city will experience an eclipse magnitude of 0.181. While Wednesday’s global event is a total solar eclipse, experts say Barrie is outside the path of totality and will see only part of the sun covered. The Canadian Space Agency is reminding anyone planning to watch the eclipse to protect their eyes with certified eclipse glasses and keep them on throughout the event. Eclipse glasses should meet the ISO 12312-2:2015 international safety standard. Looking directly at the sun without proper protection can cause serious eye damage, warn heath officials.
