Residents in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood say they are rattled after a targeted shooting early Wednesday left one man with minor injuries and damaged a nearby vehicle. The Surrey Police Service said officers responded to reports of a shooting near 60 Avenue and 177 Street at about 3:52 a.m. Police said two people were shot at and one adult man was struck. The victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. The suspects fled before officers arrived. For residents living nearby, the sound of gunfire was enough to jolt them awake. “I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Six shots,” said resident Kim. “I knew it was gunfire, but I didn’t realize how close it was.” The shooting also left visible damage in the neighbourhood. Two vehicles parked in the area were struck by bullets, one car left with damage to the roof and hood. “When they told me that my car had been shot, it really rattled me,” said resident Margrite, who said she had recently purchased the vehicle. “I just bought it actually in September. So, it’s a 2025. I don’t even have 4,000 kilometres on it.” The Surrey Police Service’s Major Crime Section has taken over the investigation, while forensic officers process evidence at the scene. Police believe the shooting was targeted and said it does not appear to be extortion related. “We do believe that it is an isolated incident, not extortion related at this time, but I can’t go into more details as to exactly the reason for the shooting,” said SPS spokesperson Sgt. Ali Gailus. The incident has left some residents questioning their sense of safety in the normally quiet neighbourhood. “We are so scared because we have a lot of kids,” said resident Jamille. “We’re thinking that this neighbourhood is not that safe.” Jamille, who said she has lived in the area for nearly a decade, hopes to see an increased police presence in the community. “We were thinking about it, but we like the area, so we’re hoping that more security would be patrolling or something,” she said.
