The Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for damaging a hydro line beneath the Riverside Bridge near the Mattagami boat launch. The pole was damaged around 1 a.m. Aug. 18. and involved “a 4,000-amp hydro line that provides electrical service to the city’s west end.” “The line had been cut using tools,” police said. Evidence recovered at the scene “Investigators located evidence at the scene, including tree branches, a hat and tools, all displaying signs of burning and charring. A bag containing additional personal articles was also recovered from the water beneath the bridge.” Damage to the police posed a “significant danger,” police said. “The Ontario Provincial Police marine unit assisted by conducting a search of the surrounding waterways,” the release said. “Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who may have information regarding the identity of the individual involved, to contact the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201.” Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers. “Police remind the public that tampering with critical infrastructure is extremely dangerous and can place both individuals and the community at serious risk,” the release added.
