Thunder Bay police recover $39K in stolen property, charge 56 people

A months-long Thunder Bay Police Service investigation has resulted in the seizure of more than $39,000 in stolen property and 256 criminal charges against 56 individuals – including 55 local residents.

The investigation, named Project Eclipse, began in September 2025 and ran through February 2026.

The service’s Break, Enter and Armed Robbery Unit led the investigation.

“The project investigated thefts and robberies from numerous businesses in Thunder Bay,” police said in a social media post.

“The successful completion of this lengthy investigation was made possible through funding provided by the Ontario Government, Ministry of the Solicitor General in which the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario supported this investigation,” the police service said in a news release.

Police did not disclose the specific locations of the affected businesses or provide a breakdown of the types of items recovered.
