A 34-year-old local man is facing multiple charges following a Thunder Bay Police Service investigation into reports of “peace being disturbed.” The service said officers were dispatched to the Red River Road and Regent Street area on Aug. 20 in response to an initial report of a disturbance. “The individual left the scene prior to officers arriving,” police said in a news release. According to police, while officers were in the area, the emergency communications centre received a second call regarding a vehicle being damaged. Police said their investigation led to a suspect being located and arrested in the Algoma Street area. Police say he went for officer’s gun “While officers were searching the suspect on scene, he attempted to gain access to an officer’s firearm,” police said. This comes as the local police chief recently commented on the rise in violence against officers. “Violence against those entrusted with protecting our community is unacceptable yet continues to occur,” Fleury said in a recent statement. Charges laid As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with disarming a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, mischief and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The accused was remanded into custody following a court appearance.
