Three charged after side-by-side stolen from northern Ont. business

Ontario Provincial Police have charged three people following a break-in at a pontoon store in Desbarats, Ont., and the theft of a new side-by-side vehicle.

Provincial police said officers responded to the break-and-enter at about 2:30 a.m. on May 8.

“The investigation determined that three individuals used an ATV to load a black 2026 Segway side-by-side onto a U-Haul trailer being towed by a dark-coloured pickup truck,” OPP said in a news release.

Police said the suspect vehicle was seen heading westbound on Highway 17.

At about 3:00 a.m., OPP said officers spotted the suspect pickup truck towing a trailer carrying a newer side-by-side and conducted a traffic stop on Trunk Road in Sault Ste. Marie.

Three individuals were taken into custody at the scene by police and transported to the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment for further investigation.

As a result, a 47-year-old man from Nestorville, a 32-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie and a 38-year-old woman from Sault Ste. Marie have each been charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

All three accused were released and are scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on July 2.
