Teen with G2 licence charged with stunt driving on Highway 11-17

A 17-year-old novice driver has been charged with stunt driving after the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle travelling 143 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

The incident occurred on Oct. 1, when the OPP initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Durango travelling westbound on Highway 11-17 near Red River Road in Thunder Bay.

Driver ‘held accountable’

The male teen, who holds a class G2 licence, was allegedly driving 53 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit.

“The 17-year-old male novice driver was held accountable,” police said in a social media post.

As a result of the stop, the young motorist was charged with stunt driving.

In addition to the charges, his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 30 days and the vehicle involved was impounded for 14 days, per the penalties for a stunt driving charge under the Highway Traffic Act.
