Teen punched in face after intruder enters home: OPP

A 30-year-old man remains in custody after Ontario Provincial Police say he entered a home on Serpent River First Nation and assaulted a teenager.

Officers responded to multiple complaints of a shirtless individual attempting to enter homes in the community around 8:20 a.m. on May 16.

Assaulted inside their home

“At approximately 8:30 a.m., the suspect entered a residence in the 160 block of Village Road and assaulted a 16-year-old by punching them in the face,” OPP said in a news release.

Police said the suspect then went into a washroom, where the youth’s father was able to contain the individual until officers arrived.

The 16-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in Elliot Lake by Algoma Paramedic Services.

Threatening, spitting on police

OPP arrested the individual a short time later.

“While in custody, the accused uttered threats toward officers and spat at police,” police said.

The accused has been charged with assault, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, two counts of assaulting a peace officer and breaching a recognizance.

The man appeared in bail court in Blind River on May 17 and was remanded into custody.
