‘Suspicious’ fire damages new home in North Bay

A suspicious fire damaged a vacant, newly-built home on Shallot Crescent in North Bay on Thursday night.

A fire Thursday evening in North Bay caused significant damage to a new home on Shallot Crescent.

Firefighters responded just after 9 p.m. following a 911 call reporting the blaze.

“Firefighters from all three fire stations responded to the reported structure fire,” a news release Friday said.

“Upon arrival, firefighters observed significant smoke and flame coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters made entry to the home, entered into the attic area and successfully extinguished the fire.”

The interior of the home suffered significant damage, officials said.

“There was nobody in the newly built home at the time of the fire as the residence is currently vacant and available for sale,” the release said.

“The cause of the fire has been determined to be suspicious by the fire investigator tasked with determining the cause of the incident. The scene has been turned over to the North Bay Police Service for further investigation.”
