Suspended northern Ont. driver charged with impaired following Highway 11 crash

A 28-year-old Englehart man faces multiple charges following a single-vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Coleman Township.

Ontario Provincial Police and EMS responded to the crash shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Canada Day.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Following an investigation, police charged the accused with dangerous operation, alcohol impaired driving, two counts of driving while under suspension and failing to properly wear a seatbelt.

Additional consequences

In addition to the charges, the motorist received a 90-day licence suspension.

“The vehicle was towed and impounded,” authorities added in their news release.

Under provincial legislation, any vehicles involved in impaired driving offences are impounded for a minimum of seven days at the owner’s expense.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Haileybury on Aug. 5.
