Suspect charged with attempted murder on Manitoulin Island

The Ontario Provincial Police charged one person with attempted murder and other offences following a gun call on Manitoulin Island earlier this week.

The Ontario Provincial Police charged one person with attempted murder and several other offences following a gun call on Manitoulin Island earlier this week.

Police responded Jan. 7 around 1:30 a.m. “to a report of a firearm-related incident in the area of Emery Road and Highway 542 in Gordon Township,” police said in a news release Jan. 8.

“There were no physical injuries reported.”

A 23-year-old from Gordon Township has been charged with attempted murder, assault, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, obstructing police, uttering threats, break and enter and two counts of using a firearm while committing an offence.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Jan. 9.
