Sudden death in northwestern Ont. under investigation

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service is investigating a sudden death that occurred in a remote northwestern Ontario community.

The incident took place during the morning hours of Nov. 21 on Sandy Lake First Nation, according to police.

Police said officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult man in the community.

No threat to public safety

While the investigation is ongoing, police have moved to reassure community members that they are safe.

“There is no ongoing threat to public safety connected to this investigation,” said Nishnawbe Aski police in a news release.

The First Nation police service is receiving assistance in the investigation from Ontario Provincial Police and the Ontario Coroner’s Office.

Authorities are currently withholding further information about the incident and their ongoing investigation.

“No further details are being released at this time,” said police.
