Sudbury police unveil improvements to online reporting system

Police in Greater Sudbury have implemented a new system that makes it easier for residents to report a range of criminal activity online.

A new and improved online crime reporting system will be in effect Oct. 20, Greater Sudbury police said Wednesday.

The system, Rubireports, “marks a significant step forward in our commitment to innovation, technology, and enhanced service delivery for our community,” police said in a news release.

“Rubireports will replace the current Coplogic system and offers a more intuitive, accessible and user-friendly experience for reporting non-emergent crimes and incidents.”

Crimes can now be reported in more than 50 languages and the system integrates Google Maps address search, making it easier to pinpoint incident locations.

Mobile friendly

And its mobile-friendly design allows “users to report from any device, anytime, anywhere.”

Evidence up to three gigs can be uploaded, including photos, videos and documents.

“In addition to non-emergent reports such as property crimes, fraud and traffic enforcement, Rubireports also supports the reporting of sensitive incidents that are investigated by our criminal investigation division, including hate crimes and hate-motivated incidents, sexual assault and human trafficking,” police said.

“Reports submitted through Rubireports in these categories are sent directly to specially trained detectives, reducing the number of times a survivor must recount their experience and allowing them to report when they are ready from any place of safety, without concern that a marked police cruiser will attend.”

The use of online reporting of crimes helps free up time for officers to respond to emergencies and other critical events, police added.

“We’re excited to offer a platform that reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and community-focused policing,” the release said.

“Rubireports is more than just a new tool—it’s a reflection of our dedication to making our reporting services more accessible, efficient and inclusive.”
