A 38-year-old man faces drug trafficking and property crime charges after the Greater Sudbury Police Service says officers on proactive downtown patrol recovered a stolen bicycle and seized cash and suspected illicit drugs. Police said officers observed an individual riding a bicycle downtown that had been reported stolen the previous day at about 2:20 a.m. on Sept. 23, adding that officers then arrested the individual for possession of stolen property. Officers said a search incident to arrest resulted in police locating a quantity of suspected illicit drugs and a large amount of cash. “Police seized methamphetamine, cocaine, and crack cocaine with an estimated combined street value of $9,795, along with $935 in cash,” said police in a news release Wednesday. “Officers also recovered the stolen bicycle valued at approximately $7,000,” added police. Police said the man was also found to be the subject of an outstanding bench warrant related to charges of operation while impaired, dangerous operation, unauthorized possession of a firearm and drug possession. Police commend proactive patrol “This investigation demonstrates the impact of proactive patrol and officer attentiveness,” said the police service’s corporate communications supervisor, Kaitlyn Dunn, in the release. “By recognizing the stolen bicycle and taking immediate investigative action, officers were able to recover stolen property, execute an outstanding warrant and remove a significant quantity of illicit drugs from the community.” New charges laid As a result of this investigation, the bike rider, a 38-year-old man, was charged with drug trafficking and two possession of property obtained by crime offences. The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on Sept. 23.
