Sudbury police seize $75K in fentanyl in high-risk traffic stop on Hwy. 69

Two men from the GTA have been charged with drug trafficking after police in Sudbury stopped a vehicle on Highway 69 as part of a drug investigation.

Two men from Toronto have been charged with drug trafficking after drug enforcement officers in Sudbury stopped a vehicle on Highway 69 this week as part of a drug investigation.

Dubbed ‘Project Tilton,’ the Jan. 19 traffic stop uncovered $75,000 in fentanyl and the arrest of the two suspects. Assisting drug enforcement officers were the canine unit and the emergency response unit.

“Upon searching the individuals and vehicle incident to arrest, officers located 750 grams of pre-weighed, pre-packaged fentanyl, four cellphones and $525 in cash,” police said in a news release Jan. 22.

7,500 doses of fentanyl

“The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $75,000. This investigation and seizure prevented approximately 7,500 fatal doses of fentanyl from entering our community.”

Two men, ages 38 and 41, both from Toronto, have been charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. The 41-year-old was also charged with two counts of violating probation.

Both men were in bail court on Jan. 20.

“The successful completion of this lengthy investigation was made possible through funding provided by the Ontario Government, Ministry of the Solicitor General in which the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario supported this investigation,” police said.
