Sudbury police search for suspect in downtown stabbing

Sudbury police seek a suspect in a downtown stabbing. A witness says the man, appearing intoxicated, attacked another man before swinging a knife at him.

Police in Greater Sudbury are looking for a man believed to be responsible for stabbing a victim at a fast-food restaurant downtown.

The incident took place around 2:25 a.m. Jan. 24 at a restaurant on Elm Street.

“Information provided was that an altercation had taken place inside the restaurant and that one individual was seriously injured,” police said in a news release Monday.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a 22-year-old man who had sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital by Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services.”

Returned carrying a knife

The investigation revealed that two men got into an argument inside the restaurant and one of them left and returned, wielding a knife.

“A physical altercation took place that led to the young man being cut with the knife,” police said.

“The individual responsible for the attack fled on foot prior to police arrival.”

Police released a photo of the suspect, who is described as a man in his 20s, around 5-foot-10 inches tall with black hair. He was wearing a black coat at the time of the attack.
