Sudbury hospital outpatient centre resumes operations following flooding last week

A hot water leak closed the outpatient clinic on Regent Street in Sudbury on March 12, 2025.

Health Sciences North’s Outpatient Centre has resumed normal operations this week after a flood forced its closure on March 12.

Hundreds of appointments affected by the closure have been rescheduled, with some being offered virtually, Jason Turnbull, the manager of communications and community engagement at Health Sciences North (HSN) told CTV News in an email on Monday.

Patients are being reminded that there is no need to call about their appointments, as HSN programs are reaching out directly to reschedule. Individuals should attend their appointments at the usual location and floor – unless instructed otherwise.

The flooding, caused by a leak from a hot water source on the fourth floor, impacted multiple levels of the Regent Street facility, including the basement and elevators.

Damage was reported to one of four echocardiogram machines, as well as some IT equipment and office furniture. HSN is working with its insurance provider to assess the total cost of the damage.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding and apologize for any inconvenience caused by the flood,” Turnbull said.

The Sudbury Outpatient Centre, formerly known as Memorial Hospital, temporarily closed after the flood was discovered at 5 a.m. on March 12. Staff were asked to work remotely where possible, and a temporary clinic was set up at the Ramsey Lake Health Centre for patients of the Sudbury Breast Diagnostic Assessment Unit.

HSN has not provided a timeline for full repairs but confirmed that clinics and services are now operational.

Patients with questions are encouraged to wait for direct communication from their care teams.
