Sudbury drug bust nets $150K in cocaine, pills, thousands in cash

Greater Sudbury police seized $150,000 in cocaine and hydromorphone along with more than $5,000 in cash from a Martindale Road apartment last week.

A drug trafficking investigation in Greater Sudbury has led to the seizure of sizable quantities of cocaine and thousands of prescription pills.

The investigation concluded on Feb. 21, when detectives with the Greater Sudbury Police Service moved in on individuals believed to be trafficking illicit drugs in the area.

Members of the service’s emergency response and canine units executed a high-risk vehicle stop where one person was taken into custody.

Based on the investigation, detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for an apartment on Martindale Road where a second person was taken into custody.

Officers conducted searches of the individuals, the vehicle and the residence incident to the arrests.

Police said officers located and seized approximately 1,085 grams of cocaine, 46 grams of crack cocaine and 992 hydromorphone pills.

“The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $150,000,” said police in a news release Tuesday.

Officers also seized $4,960 in Canadian currency and $60 in U.S. currency.

As a result of the investigation, two 27-year-old men have each been charged with two counts of drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both individuals appeared in bail court on Saturday and have since been remanded into custody.
